NC police out in numbers to monitor Kby | News Article

Normalcy returned to the troubled Kimberley town in the Northern Cape following last night’s violent protests in that area.

This is according to the Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, who says despite the calm in the area the police have noted a group of people gathering in the area of the city hall. He says in reaction to this, the South African Police Services (SAPS) in the area has mobilised its members to be on guard.

OFM News previously reported that the town experienced a wave of violent protests, citing lack of service delivery and also requests that Mangaliso Matika must be removed as the mayor of the Sol Plaatje municipality. Kock says police in Kimberley has acquired services from surrounding police stations in other towns.

Meanwhile, the municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, says residents are fighting amongst each other about the usage of electricity. He says residents from formal settlements are protesting against the residents from informal settlements and they are accusing them of drawing the power supply from their power grid, resulting in a power overload.
