Sol Plaatje municipal workers in the Northern Cape are waging a protest against the municipality over labour forum issues, but the municipality says plans to deal with and mitigate the effects of this are afoot.

Municipal workers allegedly accuse the municipality of failing to convene a labour forum to discuss several issues that affect them.

However, the municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie, says the accusations levelled against the municipality are not true. Matsie says the truth of the matter is that the municipality did hold the said forum but unfortunately the workers did not attend. He says the process to engage different stakeholders - such as the Municipal Worker's Union - has already started.

OFM News previously reported that normalcy has returned to the troubled Kimberley town following Thursday night's violent protests in that area.

Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, told OFM News despite the calm in the area the police noted a group of people gathering in the area of the city hall on Friday morning, 18 July 2019. He said in reaction to this, police in the area mobilised its members to be on guard.
