Celtic supporters to appear in court | News Article

Bloemfontein Celtic supporters who were arrested for pitch invasion in April this year are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Several supporters were arrested at an Absa Premiership League match against Cape Town City at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State, after police fired rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse a crowd that invaded the pitch and forced the abandonment of the match.

OFM News previously reported that Celtic supporters boycotted the games since the beginning of the year as they were protesting, citing the inability by the management to run the team accordingly and also demanded the chairman and owner, Max Tshabalala, to sell the team to a consortium-led businesswoman, Sinki Leshabane. These supporters were charged with public violence and was released on R500 bail each.

Following the pitch invasion, Cape Town City was awarded all three points and Bloemfontein Celtic was ordered to play their home games away from Bloemfontein. The case is now expected to go on trial.
