Johnny Muller was welcomed by his classmates at the airport on Monday as he returned from Hungary.

A 17-year-old Johnny Muller from the Wilgerivier High School in Frankfort, Free State, has made many proud with the bronze medal that he won at the recent International Biology Olympiad in Hungary, Europe.

Speaking to OFM News during his lunch break earlier today, Muller, who is in Grade 12, says they left South Africa for the Olympiad on Thursday 11 July and returned on Monday 22 July. While the actual event took place on 14 July, they first stopped in Budapest to explore for two days before heading to Hungary.

He adds that he is grateful for the opportunity as he met amazing people and says the experience helped him make a decision on what he intends to study in varsity next year. Muller says he hopes to pursue a BSc degree in Biochemistry at the University of Pretoria next year. His word of advice for upcoming matriculants: “Enjoy your last year at school, because you won't have it again. Study as hard as you can, but also spend enough time with your friends, and play a sport if you want to. Just enjoy it because I think that is the most important thing in the end.”
