Samwu members take their grievances to Luthuli House─── 12:46 Fri, 26 Jul 2019
The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) at the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality in the Free State decided to take their concerns to the national office of the ANC.
This, after the municipality again failed to pay workers’ salaries on time.
Speaking to OFM News about this matter yesterday, the union's chairperson, Sphiwe Manyoni, said they have tried everything in their power to get the municipality’s attention, but with no success.
Manyoni says they have been pleading for the municipality’s help but no-one is listening to their concerns. He also went on to say that they want the appointment of a new municipal manager as they believe that issues will be easily solved. Manyoni says the ANC national office should come up with solutions to the problems workers experience on a monthly basis. He further stated that the people are getting tired of being used by politicians who fight for positions in the municipality.
However, speaking to OFM News this morning, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC in the Free State, Thembeni Nxangisa, confirmed that workers would get their salaries today.
