Municipal workers received salary payments─── 09:35 Sat, 27 Jul 2019
The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) at the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality in the Free State, yesterday took to Luthuli House to express grievances they have with their employer.
It is alleged that municipal workers have not received salary payments on time for a few months now. OFM News’ field correspondent, Tumelo Khotha, reports that municipal workers indeed did get their salaries as promised by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC in the Free State, Thembeni Nxangisa, who confirmed to OFM News that workers would get their salaries yesterday. This, after a delay in the payment of salaries on Tuesday (23 July) which resulted in workers downing their tools.
According to Samwu chairperson, Sphiwe Manyoni, they are hoping that a new municipal manager will be appointed at Maluti-A-Phofung. He also stated that they are hopeful that the ANC national office will come up with solutions to the difficulties workers experience.
