Nurse accused of raping, killing 4-year-old in court─── PULANE CHOANE 15:53 Mon, 29 Jul 2019
The 36-year-old male nurse accused of raping and killing a 4-year-old child appeared earlier today at the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court on charges of rape, murder and kidnapping.
This follows after the discovery of the little girl, Naledi Chaka, in a pit toilet in Zone 2, which is in the Selosesha township last week. The man, who police in the Free State have since reported is a male nurse at the Botshabelo Hospital, 17 kilometres away, was arrested at his house in Selosesha last week. This, after police, linked him to the child’s disappearance. Police in the province say the man will remain in custody until his next appearance.
Provincial police spokesperson, Martin Xuma, told OFM News that the suspect remains in custody until Thursday, 8 August, which is his next scheduled court date. Xuma says it is expected that the suspect will apply for bail then.
The victim first made headlines last week, after she was reported missing on Sunday by the police and her family on social media. The mother of the victim, Matshitso Chaka, previously said the last time she saw her daughter, she was playing with friends, not far from her home. After her daughter’s disappearance, she then learnt that a certain man had promised her child gifts or sweets if she walked with him. She reportedly was told this by the children who had been playing with her child at the time. On Wednesday police reportedly found her clothes three streets away from her house in Thaba Nchu, following which she was found dead on Thursday in a pit toilet in Zone 2, Selosesha. The incident has since sent shock waves across social media and national news outlets.
