Female students from the Sedibeng TVET college and Sebokeng campus in Gauteng yesterday took to the streets to show their unhappiness over what they call sexual harassment by a male lecturer.

The students are claiming that the peaceful march was in support of the female students who they claim are being sexually harassed, in exchange for marks in order to pass.

OFM News made several attempts to get a comment from the college but received no response. However, in a letter from the college's management, George Mothapo, he addressed staff and students saying the Students Representative Council (SRC) is the only recognised structure that represents students with regards to all the student affairs at the public TVET college. This allegedly means that female students are not recognised when advocating on behalf of the alleged victims.

Furthermore, the letter adds that any student found to have behaved improperly will be disciplined accordingly, and the student will be subjected to a disciplinary hearing which may result in the dismissal from the TVET college. However, the female students who now have the support of the male students, are calling for more victims of the alleged lecturer to come forward and lay charges with the police.
