A well-known 38-year-old Bloemfontein musician has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a local businessman, Graham Wansbury, on Monday.

Police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, says the popular Bloemfontein-based male performer handed himself over to local police on Tuesday evening 30 July, a day after the alleged shooting incident. He is set to appear briefly before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today after being charged. The 52-year-old Wansbury alerted police and drove himself to the Mediclinic hospital after his assailants fired four shots in the direction of his vehicle at the corner of Maluti Avenue and Kenilworth Road in the Groenvlei area.

Two of the shots hit the businessman in the stomach and the thigh, resulting in him undergoing surgery. The suspect was allegedly accompanied by his bodyguard when they accosted Wansbury in Groenvlei, however, this bodyguard has not been arrested regarding the incident.

Mediclinic Bloemfontein spokesperson, Barbara Steenkamp, says the businessman is still in the hospital’s critical care unit following the shooting incident but his condition is stabilising. The businessman is the owner of the Sandstone Sleeper Estate outside Bloemfontein and Tents for Africa.
