Explosives used in mines were found in a shack of a 58-year-old man who is believed to have been an employee at a mine.
Tau Lekoa was arrested on 28 July in Kanana near Orkney in the North West for the illegal possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit murder. Lekoa will appear before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Thursday) for bail application.
North West Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, said police were directed to an empty shack where the suspect had allegedly hidden power gel explosives, shock tube starters, shock tube assemblies, and nitro cords, estimated to be worth R1 million.
Upon arrest, police received information alleging that the suspect has a large quantity of explosives and has created a bomb. It is alleged that he paid R10 000 to an individual to bomb his family.
The individual who was paid by the suspect is a state witness in the case.
