#SchoolViolence: Education meets parents after sexual assault | News Article

The Department of Education is today meeting with the parents of the victim of the alleged sexual abuse, as well as the parents of the three perpetrators following the shocking video that has been doing the rounds on social media.

Three grade 8 pupils, all aged 15, over the weekend at the Sediti Secondary School on the outskirts of Thaba’Nchu near Bloemfontein sexually violated a fellow pupil while filming the incident.

The departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the meeting between the three parties is to try and charter a way forward after an 18-year-old grade 12 boy was abused in a hostel room. Contrary to an earlier report that the violated pupil was a girl, police spokesperson Martin Xuma confirmed that he is a boy and he opened a case of sexual assault against the trio.

Ndaba says the violated learner reported the incident to the police and the accused were thereafter taken into custody and questioned before appearing in the Local Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 6. The teenagers were warned to reappear on August 29. Ndaba says the department condemns the incident.
