The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Free State distances itself from the African National Congress (ANC) in the upcoming by-elections of Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, which includes Kestel, Harrismith and Qwaqwa.
The by-elections will take place on the 28th of August in fifteen wards of Maluti-A-Phofung. According to the South African Communist Party’s provincial organiser, Peter Khumalo, the ANC failed to listen to his party and continued with the by-election processes.
Khumalo further stated that the 16 expelled councillors were fighting for corruption that took place within the municipality and justice have not been served. He also explained that even though they are affiliates of the ANC, his party will not be supporting them.
