NPO keeps library dream alive─── 09:49 Thu, 15 Aug 2019
A nonprofit organisation, Refentse Katlego Youth Development, is hard at work to keep the hope of a functioning library alive in Letsopa near Ottosdal in the North West.
The pressure has increased after the local library was torched during community protests last month. The organisation has 16 members and operates from Naledi Primary School on a daily basis. They provide reading services, storytelling and assist learners with homework.
Organisation founder, Tuka Magwatane, told OFM News that a shortage of books, resources, and skills are some of the challenges faced by the organisation. Chairperson, Khutsafalo Fologisi, is urging the community to donate books to their organisation after the library’s were stolen after it was torched. They will then again be able to provide a better service to learners and residents of Letsopa.
