NC government refurbishes house of world-renowned healer, author─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:56 Mon, 19 Aug 2019
The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture says despite the challenges it has faced in its efforts to try and renovate the house of the world-renowned traditional healer, Credo Mutwa, work is continuing in Kuruman as planned.
Mutwa is known as an author of books that draw upon African mythology, traditional Zulu folklore, extraterrestrial encounters, and his own personal encounter. The departmental spokesperson, Conrad Fortune, tells OFM News that after a few concerns were raised about the state of the house, the department then decided to come to the aid of the ailing 98-year-old Mutwa. Mutwa also stayed at the North West famous Lotlamoreng Dam in Mahikeng, an area from which he was evicted during the Bophuta Tswana regime three decades ago where he lived with his wife. Fortune further tells OFM News that the renovations of Mutwa’s Kuruman home will be completed within the next two weeks.
He says they have replaced the roof of Mutwa’s home and have resecured the perimeter with fencing. Fortune says the department has also reinforced the walls inside the house after discussions with the infrastructure unit. "The 98-year-old Mutwa has had to move to a smaller house in his yard to make way for renovations,” he added. "The work started in February and was expected to take only two months,” Fortune concluded.
In October 2018, Mutwa made an emotional return to the Lotlamoreng Dam and called on the government to preserve its history and to speed up development in the area.
