Celtic fans’ case postponed again─── 10:55 Mon, 19 Aug 2019
The case against nine Bloemfontein Celtic supporters who were arrested for pitch invasion in April this year was postponed.
The supporters invaded the pitch in April this year during an Absa Premiership league match against Cape Town City at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium. The case was last week postponed to 17 September at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for further consultation.
Thirteen supporters were arrested after police fired rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse a crowd that invaded the pitch and forced the abandonment of the match. However, four supporters’ cases were withdrawn as the court found them not to be directly involved in the ordeal. According to the lawyer of the supporters, Masilo Koenane, they asked for a postponement in order to get video material of the incident for the state to view. The supporters were arrested for protesting the inability of the management to run the team accordingly and also demanded the chairman and owner Max Tshabalala to sell the team to a consortium-led businesswoman, Sinki Leshabane.
