Police minister to visit Welkom─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:51 Thu, 22 Aug 2019
The National Police Commissioner, Bheki Cele, is on Friday 23 August 2019 again heading to Welkom in the Free State following his visit a few months ago before the national elections.
This time Cele will engage with the community of Thabong through an Imbizo with hopes of enhancing policing and community relations between the two parties. The police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News that Cele will also be briefed about some of the strides the local police in that area have achieved since his last visit. Makhele says societal issues such as gangsterism were raised by the residents in that during the Minister's visit months ago has since subsided a bit.
The police in that area have also been battling to deal with issues of illegal mining by the so-called Zama Zamas. "Minister Cele, alongside SAPS management, will engage community members on policing matters aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents in and around Welkom,” he says.
The Imbizo details are as follows:
Date: 23 August 2019
Time: 11:00
Venue: Kopanong Indoor Sports Arena; Thabong; Welkom
