Mokgoro pushes back release of report into NW tribe’s affairs─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 08:08 Mon, 26 Aug 2019
North West Premier Job Mokgoro has again pushed back the release of the report probing allegations of mismanagement and misappropriation of funds by a North West Traditional Council at the eleventh hour.
In a statement released on Sunday 25 August, Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says the report into the alleged misconduct of certain members of the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Council was meant to be released today, in Moruleng, which falls under the Moses Kotane Local Municipality. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Mokgoro has postponed the release date. He promises it will be released before this weekend and a date, time and venue will be announced in due course. He further apologises for any inconvenience to the tribe and council members.
OFM News previously reported Mokgoro was supposed to have released the findings of the report in June after appointing a commission of inquiry to look into issues brought forward by some members of the Tribal Council.
In March 2017, the Democratic Alliance (DA) reported it was recommended that the traditional council in question and its subsidiaries be placed under administration and that criminal charges be considered against some of the custodians of the entities. Recently, Mokgoro announced that he would facilitate and speed up the Special Investigation Unit's investigations into the allegations of maladministration at the Tribal Council. Mokgoro said he will release the report once he has gone through its content and recommendations.
Mokgoro is also expected to release the report relating to the Batlhako Ba Mmakau Traditional Community on or before 13 September 2019, at a time and venue still to be determined.
