Pupils of Tshireleco High School in Kimberley in the Northern Cape was visited by the SAPS Provincial Legal Services and the Kimberley State Attorney Office in conclusion of their Women's Month theme 'Phenomenal Woman'.
Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, reported that the school visit was to raise awareness of women and children abuse. He also stated that the Junior Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Asset Management, Buhle Khoza, and State Attorney representative, Ms Gcilitshana, encouraged women and children to break the silence of violence against them. They shared light on some of the symptoms of verbal abuse and sexual assault, amongst others.
Kock reported that Lesego Kantani, who was the motivational speaker, shed light on women empowerment, education and feminism. He says the event was fun and informative with a candle-light ceremony in honour of all the fallen heroines, and all those women who are still missing. Pupils performed traditional dances and all the female scholars received sanitary towels and gifts.
