School’s relocation questioned amidst sanitation project | News Article

Questions are mounting regarding a project to build new flushing toilets at Mamoratwa Combined School, situated 20km from Ottosdal in the North West, while there are rumours of the school’s relocation.

A week ago, parents were called to a meeting where the school management informed them that the school will be relocating to Delareyville and turned into a secondary school at the beginning of 2020.

The school currently accommodates learners from Ottosdal and Delareyville, and it is alleged that next year learners from Ottosdal will be placed at schools in Letsopa.

The spokesperson of the North West Department of Public Works, Matshube Mfoloe, confirmed to OFM News that a sanitation project at the value of R3 million is underway at the school. However, Mfoloe said public works is not aware of the relocation allegations.

Ward councillor, Tumelo Mthimkulu, told OFM News they are hoping that the allegations are not true.

Mthimkulu stated the project will create employment and ensure better sanitation for learners for years to come.

The North West Department of Education spokesperson, Elias Malindi, has asked OFM News to give them time to gather information regarding the matter.
