Matlosana Municipal Manager's future in balance | News Article

The future of Matlosana's controversial municipal manager, Theetsi Nkhumise, hangs in the balance for now.

OFM News was told by a source that the African National Congress (ANC) councillors have been told to convene a special council meeting on Monday.

This as on Thursday the local council in Matlosana Troika, which normally includes the Chief Whip of the Council, the Speaker, the Executive Mayor and the Municipal Manager, amongst others, were summoned to the ANC provincial offices following the disruption of council meetings.

The source says the meeting will deal with financial irregularities stemming from the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and the Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu's report linking Nkhumise to these irregularities.

He further adds that the MPAC report seeks to suspend the municipal manager.

OFM News previously reported that council meetings have been disrupted three times in a space of two months, by residents allegedly on the payroll of the manager, according to the source.

Meanwhile, according to the Mail & Guardian, irate residents of the municipality earlier this year approached lawyers to force the municipality to remove Nkhumise.

This after reports that he kept mum on his alleged criminal record and failed to disclose it to the municipality. This has since been rejected by the Mayor, Maetu Kgaile, who told OFM News in an exclusive interview in May 2019 that the allegations against the manager have no substance and are baseless.

Kgaile said the municipality has done everything according to the book, a thorough background check was done on Nkhumise, and nothing irregular was uncovered by the municipality.
