FS healthcare worker gets life imprisonment for rape─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:47 Sat, 31 Aug 2019
The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) in the Free State has welcomed that a 33-year-old Healthcare Worker has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
This, after he was found guilty on two counts of rape. Magistrate Jan Greyvenstein sentenced Mmulelo Steven Macwili after he convicted him of raping a 12-year-old wheelchair bound patient at Life Pasteur Hospital on 5 December 2014.
NPA Spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, says they welcome the sentence after the court heard that on the day of the incident Macwili had raped the patient twice.
The complainant reported the incident to a doctor, after which she pointed out the accused at an identity parade.
Shuping says although the accused denied being involved in the rape, Greyvenstein found him guilty on both counts and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He furthered ordered that Macwili’s name should be included in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
