A 17-year-old school pupil was stabbed multiple times by a group of learners in Geysdorp near Delareyville in North West. Police spokesperson, Sam Tselenyane, says the stabbing incident of occurred on Wednesday.

At the beginning of 2019, the province was  rocked by several stabbing incidents.

In February a 13-year-old pupil allegedly used a pair of scissors to stab his 14-year-old classmate to death at Mateane Primary School in Diretsane, while a 15-year-old pupil killed another 15-year-old who was on his way home from school in Brits.

Police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says in the latest incident the victim died at Mahikeng Provincial Hospital after being rushed there by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).

Tselanyane says Delareyville police are investigating a case of murder, adding no arrest has been made yet.

“It is alleged that a feud ensued between two groups of learners at Geysdorp Secondary School on Tuesday.”

“Consequent to intervention by educators, the groups, made up of learners from Madibogo village and Geysdorp separated,” says Tselanayane.

He adds that according to information at police's disposal, at about 11:30 on Wednesday, a group of learners from Madibogo mobilised other learners from the village, then armed themselves with an assortment of weapons.

He further adds that this group allegedly went to Geysdorp Secondary School where they forced entry into the premises and as a result, the learners who believed that they were targeted, fled to the village.

“The pursuing group then followed the other to the village” It was at that point that confrontation arose after the group that was being chased, retaliated and a 17-year-old boy from Madibogo High School was allegedly caught and stabbed several times, he further adds.

“Upon the arrival of the police at the scene, the victim was very weak and unable to relate what happened He was then rushed by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) to Delareyville Hospital where he was immediately transferred to Mahikeng Provincial Hospital. However, he was declared dead before arrival at the hospital,” Tselanyane concludes.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, has condemned the incident and urged members of the community to work together with the police to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
