New home for gender based violence victim's family─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:21 Fri, 06 Sep 2019
The scourge of violence against women and children in South African continues to dominate headlines with many still calling for gender-based violence to be declared a state of emergency.
As the country's residents continue to raise their concerns following the much-publicized death of a UCT student - Uyinene Mrwetyana - the case of a four year old girl in the Free State’s town of Thaba ‘Nchu who was raped, murdered and dumped in a pit toilet over a month ago has once again raised eyebrows.
In memory of the 4-year-old Naledi Chaka, the Free State provincial government on Thursday handed over a newly built house to her parents to show their support and raise awareness about increasing cases of gender based violence (GBV). OFM News’ Katleho Morapela spoke to the Department of Human Settlement’s Senne Bogatsu about Naledi’s story, and how the department can assist those in need of housing.
