Tip-offs help FS police thwart looting attempts─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 15:37 Wed, 11 Sep 2019
Police in the Free State have managed to curb looting attempts in Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba’Nchu today, thanks to tip-offs from community members.
Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, tells OFM News the situation in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality has been calm, with no arrests made today. Kareli says Public Order Police are patrolling the area to ensure that order is maintained.
He mentions in Bloemfontein, the phase six area has also been reported to have had some looting attempts which were thwarted by police. This is in contrast to the situation on Tuesday afternoon when about four people were arrested for public violence in Bloemfontein. This as hundreds of Nigerian nationals are reported to be leaving South Africa on Wednesday, following the spike in attacks on African migrants in Gauteng.
Nigeria announced that 600 people would be repatriated with the assistance of a private company that would foot the bill. It is yet to be confirmed how many foreign nationals have in fact boarded planes thus far.
