#FindTheBaton: Women riders cross the world | News Article

Women are urging stores catering for motorsport enthusiasts to consider stocking female bikers’ gear.

Women riders across the world will assemble in large numbers to celebrate their love for bikes and their sisterhood. “These prestige events, organised by Women Riders World Relay (WRWR), are aimed to raise awareness that women are bike riders too,” says Rialette van Niekerk, Ambassador of Women Riders World Relay (WRWR) South Africa.

The relay will start in Johannesburg on 2 January 2020, with the handing over of the baton to Van Niekerk. The relay will progress to Upington in the Northern Cape.

Registrations are open for people interested and will close in November 2019. For further details go to WRWR’s web page.

The first WRWR relay started in Scotland in February 2019 and will end in the United Arab Emirates in January 2020. Women from at least 100 countries will be riding the WRWR, passing on the hand-carved baton from one country’s ambassador to another.

A multitude of bikers will ride for ten days through South Africa with stops for sleepovers in Clarens, the Dolphin Coast, Matatiele, Grahamstown, De Rust, Cape Town, Calvinia, Upington as well as in Vryburg, Delareyville and Sannieshof, spending one night in each town. In Upington, Van Niekerk will hand over the baton to the Namibian Ambassador.
