Residents taking a stand in Bloem Water battle | News Article

The battle between Bloem Water and the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) due the Metro’s alleged none payment is starting to generate more legal action from irate residents.

This, as a Pellissier resident, Bernie Naude, took a stand this week and opened a case of theft against the Metro for failing to pay its debt to the tune of millions to the water board, that recently left residents without water for more than two days.

Earlier in the week, residents of Pellissier reported the troubled metro to two chapter nine institutions, namely the Public Protector and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

Naude says on Friday night he received a call from the police informing him that his case will not be investigated due to the lack of merit in the case. However, Naude says he will not allow his and others' rights to be trampled on.

He adds that although he accepts the police’s reasoning, he wants to maintain that the police do not understand the core issues within his statement. Naude says he received a call yesterday informing him the police’s legal department has ruled “there is no issue" as he pays for the water he has already used.

On his Facebook page, Naude posted that the point he wants to send across is that the Metro is still failing to pay Bloem Water, while residents do pay their water accounts.
