Amy'Leigh accused in court after another night in jail─── 09:52 Fri, 20 Sep 2019
The three who stand accused of kidnapping six-year-old Amy'Leigh de Jager spent another night behind bars as their case rolled over to Friday at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court.
This is to allow further cross-examination and bail applications, as Tharina Human, Pieter Van Zyl and Laetitia Nel face charges of extortion and kidnapping a minor.
During court proceedings on Thursday, an investigating officer, Clayton Motloung, told the court that one accused has told investigators that she owed money to a foreign national, which led to planning the kidnapping of Amy'Leigh in an attempt to get a R2 million ransom from the child's family. Motloung further told the court that the victim's five-year-old brother attends the class of one of the accused.
Motloung told the court that when they visited the smallholding at Vanderbijlpark where the accused Human lived, they found her packing clothes in a bag - presumably waiting for the ransom money and allegedly ready to flee to Durban. For this reason, the investigation officer argued Human must not be granted bail, adding she might now flee the country.
