Indigenous language development highlighted in NC | News Article

The Department of sports, arts and culture will be hosting a dialogue between community members and a panel to scrutinize issues around literacy and indigenous languages in the Northern Cape.

Panelists will engage on ways in which languages can be preserved, revitalized and promoted in order to enhance tolerance, nation building and social inclusion.

People from different racial and cultural backgrounds will deliberate on a variety of issues which affect the use and development of indigenous languages in the Northern Cape and the country at large.

This is inline with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) National Literacy Day, commemorated on September 8.

This year’s dialogue theme is ‘Celebrating South Africa’s Literary Classics in the Year of Indigenous Languages’ and citizens of South Africa are urged to come out in large numbers.

The event is set to take place in Upington at 18:00 today.
