Another tribal report to be released by NW premier today─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:56 Wed, 25 Sep 2019
Yet another report on the state of affairs of the Bakgatla Ba Mmakau in the North West is expected following the Baloyi commission of inquiry set to investigate troubled tribal councils in the province.
Premier Job Mokgoro will on Wednesday 25 September 2019 release this report on the dispute of kingship of the tribe. Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says this after there were claims that the dispute was causing the instability in the tribal council. OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro recently instructed the Batlhako Ba Leema Royal Council in Tlhatlaganyane, near Rustenburg, to immediately nominate a successor to the late Kgosi Tlhogwane after a 14 year-long squabble following the death of Tlhogwane.
Upon the release of the report into the Batlhako Ba Leema, Mokgoro said the council is required to inform him, in writing, of the identification of Leema’s successor in terms of Section 12 of the provincial Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Amendment Act, and it has only 30 days to do so.
OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro earlier ordered a forensic investigation into the affairs of the controversial Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Council following a report into issues of maladministration and misappropriation by the council. Mokgoro said the investigation by the Maluleke Commission of Inquiry scrutinised the transactions and the financial affairs of the council and its companies.
Following the damning report by the commission, he further announced that in terms of his powers, he will appoint a person to take control of the affairs of the council.
