FARMOVS – a research organisation that cares about a cure | News Article

FARMOVS, an organisation that conducts clinical research in both patients and healthy volunteers, says potential participants do not have to worry about safety when participating in study trials at its facilities.

The organisation says their study trials are safe and the rights of participants are always protected. Before participating in a trial, the potential participant has to sign informed consent, following a lengthy explanation of the study by the FARMOVS doctors.  All studies have to be approved by both the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority as well as an Independent Ethics Committee. These institutions evaluate the safety of the trial and will not approve it if there are major safety concerns linked to trial participation. FARMOVS is committed to protecting the rights of patients who participate in clinical trials. In addition, participants are also accommodated in a modern, comfortable and safe environment.

Since 1974, FARMOVS has successfully managed and conducted more than 3,000 clinical trials for clients across the globe, ranging from small companies to the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. FARMOVS has also conducted studies on medicines that have been approved for use in countries across the globe.

Although it is operating on a global platform, FARMOVS is situated on the campus of the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein. This 10,000 m² world-class research centre boasts well-appointed participant consultation and admission facilities, pharmacy and cutting edge laboratory facilities, all equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

FARMOVS uses these well-equipped facilities to conduct trials in a variety of diseases, such as:

  • Cervical pre-cancer
  • Diabetes and Diabetic related complications
  • Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Cardiovascular diseases and high cholesterol
  • Parkinson’s disease
