Saul visits the troubled Ritchie─── 15:08 Mon, 30 Sep 2019
The community of Ritchie in the Northern Cape, who embarked on protest actions twice this month, will on Monday receive a visit from the Premier of the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul.
Residents requested Saul's visit after they took to the streets to show disapproval for both their councillors and the appointment of subcontractors involved in a provincial road upgrade in the area. The unhappy crowd burned down an internet cafe in the process.
The premier’s spokesperson, Bronwyn Thomas-Abrahams, told OFM News that today's strategy will be to listen to the community’s grievances and seek solutions. She is also positive that there will then be clarity on what the road forward will be.
According to Abrahams they do not condemn protest action, but reiterates that the correct guidelines should be followed when such decisions are made. She also criticised the burning of community buildings in order to make a statement.
