Man arrested for stabbing partner with a sword in NC | News Article

The Northern Cape police have apprehended a suspect over the weekend for allegedly stabbing his partner with a sword in the throat.

Police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, says this 44-year-old man is expected to appear before the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder. He says this after the suspect allegedly had an argument with his partner and as a result, ended up stabbing her with a sword.

The suspect was arrested amidst the police Crime Prevention duties over the weekend to curb crimes in their policing clusters which includes Galeshewe in Kimberley, Calvinia in Namakwa, and Colesberg and Kuyasa. This is the second incident in the province of a sword attack, following the arrest of a 38-year-old man for the murder of a police officer, the 29-year-old Sergeant Nontombi Hope Manie, in Kuruman.

News24 reports that the Kuruman man was arrested on Tuesday after a six-month search. It is alleged that he used a sword to stab Manie to death on 2 March 2019. The report further says that at the time, Manie was attending a social gathering at Surrender Hill, when a fight broke out. “Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lynda Steyn, said the Hawks' Serious Crime Investigation Unit arrested the man during a joint operation with the Flying Squad, Kuruman police, and the local neighbourhood watch,” the reports adds. The man faces a charge of murder.
