#RunForHope in FS to highlight violent crime | News Article

The plight of victims of violent crimes will this week be at the forefront of the lobby group Afriforum’s #RunForHope taking place across several towns in the Free State.

Afriforum’s Ian Cameron says a world-renowned ultra-marathon athlete from Centurion, Bennie Roux, will run a 250-kilometre run to raise awareness about the trauma and suffering victims of violent crimes endure.

He says Roux will be joined by other athletes from 22 to 26 October 2019 covering hundreds of kilometres in the Free State to collect money for AfriForum’s Trauma Support Unit.

He adds that the trauma unit started with its main focus being the victims of farm attacks, but it later spread to other activities such as counselling those would need to testify and even cleaning crime scene where victims live: “The Trauma Support Unit provides a very unique, personal service to victims of violent crimes – especially victims of farm attacks,” he says.
