#CalebMotshabiMurders: Defence team to grill state witness─── LUCKY NKUYANE 05:11 Tue, 22 Oct 2019
The legal counsel of Seipati Ramatisa, a 20-year-old woman and mother of two, as well as co-accused in the murder of two DA members and one Lesotho national in Caleb Motshabi in Bloemfontein, will seek to grill the investigative officer in the case.
This follows after Ramatisa's defence team asked for more time to study the testimony of Tibi Mahlatsi, who gave testimony on the alleged involvement of the accused in courtroom 20 at the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court last week.
Mahlatsi gave testimony in a packed courtroom, mostly with residents who want the five accused - including four men and Ramatisa - to be denied bail.
He alleged that Ramatisa lied under oath, that she burnt a pair of sneakers which the police were after and later found in Ficksburg where Jabulani Machoto (25) was hiding outside Bloemfontein.
The State prosecutor, Johan de Vries, told the court that Ramatisa played a pivotal role in an attempt to help all the accused by destroying evidence linking them to the murder of Molokwane Mkgoro and Godfrey Mbalula, as well as one Lesotho national in Bloemfontein earlier this year.
Last week the court heard about the pressure exerted by the murder accused and boyfriend of Ramatisa. Mahlatsi described her as a person under the influence of her co-accused and boyfriend Jabulani Machoto.
Mahlatsi told the court that Ramatisa allegedly accompanied Machoto to a traditional healer where a cleansing ceremony was set to be performed on him in order to evade the arrest.
Bloemfontein Magistrate, Ryan Ishmail, is set to announce his verdict today following the conclusion of the accused's cross-examination by De Vries. Ramatisa is the only woman among a group of four men, including the father of her 10-month-old baby.
Ramatisa was arrested in June at a house allegedly used as a hideout in phase 10. She was allegedly on the run after learning that the police were hot on her trail.
The 20-year-old allegedly left her two children with her mother before she was arrested later on. Ramatisa's mother, Amelia, made quite a damning statement against her own daughter in court, describing her as an "irresponsible" person.
