Two busted for R2 million's dagga─── LUCKY NKUYANE 05:40 Wed, 23 Oct 2019
Two people who were apprehended for being in possession of dagga worth about R2 million in Springbok in the Northern Cape are set to appear in the town's Magistrate's Court today.
Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, says this is a major breakthrough in the fight against the drug trade.
He says police on Friday found 15kg of Hybrid dagga stashed inside the luggage of two suspects travelling in a bus.
He adds that the suspects, a man and a woman, were travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town when Springbok SAPS Detectives, the Springbok K9 unit and the Namaqua Public Order Policing unit among others searched their bus and ultimately made the bust.
Kock says this team, which also included the Springbok Criminal Records and Crime Scene Management Team, followed up on information received.
"The adult male and female suspects appeared in the Springbok Magistrates’ Court and the case was postponed to 23 October for a formal bail application," he adds.
Meanwhile, the Acting Cluster Commander for the Namaqua Cluster, Colonel Albie Kotze, lauded the SAPS members for the bust and says this truly portrays that the police are on a journey to a safer South Africa.
"Together we are creating a safe and secure environment, that is conducive for social and economic stability, supporting a better life for all," Kotze says.
