Spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe, says 11 512 full-time candidates and the 2 024 part-time candidates sat across the 150 examination centres for English paper 1.

The examination today came just a week after MEC Mac Jack announced the province’s state of readiness for the end-of-the-year matric examinations and confirmed that measures have been put in place to ensure the smooth running thereof.

Van Der Merwe adds that the department will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that examination irregularities are prevented.

OFM News previously reported that Jack said a total of 150 chief invigilators have been appointed to strengthen efforts to eradicate any examination irregularities.

He highlighted that the class of 2019 has a mammoth task ahead to ensure that they further improve on last year’s 73,3% pass percentage.
