The three suspects, aged 35, 30, and 37 respectively, will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Members of the Welkom Tactical Response Team (TRT) conducted an intelligence driven operation on Friday after they received a tip-off regarding a red Volkswagen Polo with Lesotho number plates that might be transporting stolen copper cables.

The members found 28 rolls of copper cable weighing 10.94 kg with a street value of roughly R6 050 and subsequently arrested the suspects on the spot. All the suspects are detained at the Welkom Police station.

Welkom Cluster Commander, Major-General Lerato Molale, welcomed the quick response by the TRT members and applauded them for a job well done.
