Bfn woman linked to hit-and-run hands herself over─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:05 Tue, 05 Nov 2019
A 32-year-old Novelake Lisbet Smith, who was on the run from the police for over a week after she was linked to a case of culpable homicide of a local businessman, Ndleleni Donvulo, handed herself over to the Mangaung police on Monday 4 November.
She appeared in court the same day. Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the woman appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on charges of culpable homicide and failure to report an accident within 24 hours.
Smith evaded arrest for about a week after screenshots of a video that captured her in a red dress was shared on social media with police asking for her whereabouts. The woman is alleged to have ran over Donvulo and sped off following an alleged altercation with other patrons at a local pub. Makhele says the case was postponed to 11 November 2019 for a formal bail application, and she is remanded in custody.
Makhele says this follows an incident that happened in the early hours of Sunday 27 October 2019, where the local businessman, Donvulo, was fatally hit by a speeding vehicle outside a pub in Pitso Street, Bochabela, in Mangaung. Makehele says the investigation into the mater still continues.
