Makgoe assures #DrBlokFire victims of new hostel─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 16:21 Tue, 05 Nov 2019

Refurbishments at the Dr Blok Secondary School’s hostel in Bloemfontein will soon eventually kick off after months of delays. This is according to the MEC for Free State Education, Tate Makgoe.
Makgoe says procurement processes are almost complete and he will soon announce a contractor to carry out the project. He tells OFM News that the building of the hostel could not take place during the timeframes they have set following assessments by their group of engineers who told the department that the hostel will have to be built anew with the old structure completely demolished.
The school’s hostel was engulfed by fire at the beginning of the year leaving more than 100 learners without clothing, bedding and other necessities. While no learners were seriously injured in the January 11 incident, parents and guardians have since raised concerns over the completion of the hostel, citing poor conditions of the learners’ current accommodation at a building that was a previously unoccupied on the school premises.
Makgoe, however, says the building process will soon commence and learners will return to the hostel in the new year.
