NW Finance MEC set to outline cost-cutting measures─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:15 Tue, 12 Nov 2019
The MEC for Finance in the North West, Motlalepula Rosho, will next Tuesday table the province’s mid-term adjustment budget. This is subsequent to the tabling of the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) by Minister Tito Mboweni last month.
Following Mboweni’s announcement that the national debt exceeded R3 trillion and is likely to rise to about R4.5 trillion in the next three years, Rosho is expected to make announcements on how the province plans to implement cost-cutting measures and how it plans to reallocate funds to projects of high priority.
She is also expected to outline how the province will cut the public sector wage bill after Mboweni announced that senior government officials will not be getting salary increments for the “foreseeable future”.
Rosho’s office has meanwhile confirmed the mid-term budget speech set to be delivered in the Provincial Legislature will look into measures on how to deal with slow economic growth, youth unemployment, and the resultant high levels of poverty.
