No birds and bees in controversial book | News Article

The controversy regarding the Department of Education’s sexuality education has opened doors for tricksters to take advantage and publish explicit cartoon pictures on social media.

The pictures have in effect been misleading parents into thinking that this is the material that will be used in their children’s sex education in the new year.

OFM News has, however, identified the pictures to be from a book published in 1975 by Per Holm Knudsen, a Danish writer, teacher, and psychotherapist - and not the planned curriculum as misleading messages would have people believe. The book that graphically describes how a baby is conceived could leave many parents squirming uncomfortably. After all the hype, the book is now being sold on Amazon for just over R2600. The online store says it has rocked the internet in June 2015 and there is only one copy available.

Meanwhile, the media reported that the Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, said parents have the choice to opt out of the sexuality education by not allowing their children to be part of these classes. However, Motshekga added that this was possible if parents could come up with an alternative curriculum, but it should meet the requirements in the curriculum assessment and assessment policy statement (Caps).
