#PrellerSquareShooting: State witness' character questioned | News Article

The defence team in the murder of CityMed MD, Louis Siemens, in the Bloemfontein High Court has put the character and the credibility of a state witness, former Grootvlei prison head, Tatolo Setlai, under scrutiny.

Friday's question to his credibility and motive follows his testimony on his relationship with the accused number one and alleged murder mastermind, Stanley Bakili, who is on trial with seven other suspects.

Setlai testified that he had suspicions about the movements and the manner of communication between Bakili, accused Clive Tshivenga and the self-confessed shooter of Siemens, Xolisile Mbebetho, while at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein on 6 and 9 May 2018.

The legal counsel of Bakili, Masilo Koenane, says Setlai’s testimony should be viewed as that of a man who is bitter and bears a grudge against Bakili because of a fallout with Setlai - who earlier described himself as a guardian to the accused.

Meanwhile, Judge Pitso Molitsoane was called to step in on two accusations, when Koenane and the counsel, Lebohang Mokhele, for accused Molebatsi Mogoera, queried Setlai on his previous arrest and expulsion from his job on allegations of fraud and corruption a few years ago.

Siemens was shot dead in Preller Square's basement parking lot on 10 May 2018.
