According to a statement issued by Thakeng late on Tuesday, Vieira went to his home in the afternoon, where he apparently found Goretti's body and alerted the authorities.

Upon their arrival, police interrogated Vieira outside the home, after which he went inside and allegedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Thakeng concluded that this was a developing story and that more details would be made available soon. Meanwhile, the Welkom City Facebook page shared condolences with the family and friends of the deceased.
