Police impostors arrested in NC─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:09 Sat, 23 Nov 2019
Three Northern Cape police imposters are expected to appear before the Hartswater Magistrate Court on Monday.
This, after the South African Police Service (SAPS) earlier this week arrested the three men, aged 35, 39 and 57 respectively for impersonating police officers, and for fraud.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says the trio was arrested after receiving a R1 000 bribe during a trap set by the police.
This followed after police were informed that the suspects were defrauding residents and posing as members of the police service.
He says in one incident, one of the suspects called a father - whose son is in custody for rape - pretending to be a police officer, and demanded money from the father on grounds that he would “squash the case”.
Ramatseba says their investigations into the case continues, and urges members of the public to be cautious and report any suspected police impostors at their nearest police station.
