Shoppers warned ahead of #BlackFriday | News Article

As South Africa approaches the biggest shopping day of the year, more and more people are anticipating it.

The North West Consumer Affairs Office cautions consumers to be vigilant and to not spend recklessly. The director of Consumer Affairs in the North West, Edwin Letsokgo, says Black Friday offers deals that may be enticing to consumers, however, they need to know what their rights and responsibilities are when buying goods on sale or promotion. This year’s Black Friday sale is on 29 November.

Letsokgo advises consumers to not buy goods on credit, not buy items they don’t need and only buy items they have planned to buy.

“If you want to buy an item, especially towards the end of the year, you need to plan it well at the beginning of the year, so that you can buy the item cash.”

He further says those who will be buying groceries should be careful when they buy that they don’t buy items that are about to expire because some businesses tend to clear the old stock and place it on the front shelves.

“Grab the stock that is at the back of the shelf because that is where you will find the new stock, especially at the big grocery shops.”

The Department of Economic Development, Environment Conservation, and Tourism, together with the Consumer Affairs Office in the North West, have embarked on a series of roadshows, starting Monday 25 November at Boxer Complex & Vryburg Mall, and ending on Friday 29 November 2019 at Tlhabane Foro Spar Complex & Waterfall Mall.
