The Free State police have, this week, managed to track down and arrest the 27-year-old man believed to be responsible for a random shooting that occurred in Botshabelo seven months ago.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, confirms the provincial Tactical Reaction Team - commonly known as ‘Amaberete’ - arrested the suspect who hails from Botshabelo in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 10 December 2019, in his home in Section F.
The 27-year old man is alleged to have fired several shots into a vehicle that was parked in Boithuso in May 2019. The two people seated inside the vehicle were injured in the onslaught. Mbambo says the suspect, who was identified in investigations into the matter, has been on the run since the incident.
Mbambo says the “suspect was found with a 38 revolver and two [rounds of] live ammunition. It was also discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in the Park Road area”. Ballistic tests will be undertaken on the firearm to determine if it was the one used in the random shooting.
Meanwhile, he will appear in the Selosesha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday - 12 December 2019 – facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
