Mkhwebane makes adverse findings against NW government | News Article

The North West premier, Job Mokgoro, has been told to apologise to a victim of prejudice due to the provincial government’s failure to pay for services rendered between April and August 2010 amounting to over a million rand.

The Public Protector (PP), Busisiwe Mkhwebane, on Thursday released her adverse findings regarding the Provincial Government after Moletlanyi Moses Mokwena approached her office with claims of non-payment by the government on 12 November 2018. Mkhwebane says Mokwena alleged to have rendered services on three different occasions to the NWPG amounting to R1.2 million when the National Assembly Speaker, Thandi Modise, was the premier in the province back in 2010. She says Mokgoro must make sure that Mokwena receives payment, with interest calculated, within 60 days.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for Mokgoro, Vuyisile Ngesi, tells OFM News that they will respect and abide by Mkhwebane’s remedial action.

“Mokwena alleged that he rendered services to the NWPG on three different occasions. The services involved the provision of direction and advertising blimps, mobile advertising billboards, removal of banners and exhibition boards,” she says. “The alleged services were rendered on 27 April 2010 during the Freedom Day celebrations held at Piet Plessis at a cost of R319 999.60; 9 May 2010 at the Mmabatho Stadium during the ZCC Mass Prayer event at a cost of R626 838.87 and on 9 August 2010 during the Women’s Day celebrations held at Maquassi Hills at a cost of R278 271.23,” she further adds. Mkhwebane says Mokwena alleged that he had engaged officials from the NWPG, including the former Premier, Modise, and current Premier Mokgoro. She added that Mokwena also went to the North West High Court, the Public Service Commission, the Presidency, to the public accounts committee (SCOPA) and the North West police. “However, the NWPG remained unyielding when it comes to effecting payment,” Mkhwebane added.
