FS road death toll continues to rise as accident claims another life─── 09:52 Fri, 13 Dec 2019
An accident on the N6 road between Rouxville and Aliwal North has claimed a man’s life and a passenger sustained multiple injuries.
The spokesperson of the EMS in the Free State, Sipho Towa, says the man lost control of the truck and it overturned. He was declared dead on the scene while the passenger was trapped under the truck. The road was closed for hours as the EMS were extricating the passenger. Upon success, the passenger was transported by helicopter to the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein. The road is now opened for traffic. This increases the road death toll in the Free State due to accidents rising to eight this week.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, has activated the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in Harrismith in the Free State on Thursday 12 December 2019. The minister took to his social media account to say he is happy with what he saw in Harrismith and they will do more to keep the road users safe. The hashtag for the 2019 campaign is #LiveBeyondDezemba.
