FS police warn residents over bogus prophet─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:27 Sun, 15 Dec 2019

Free State police have issued a warning to residents to be vigilant and aware of a bogus prophet defrauding unsuspecting people.
Police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says a case of fraud was recently registered at Welkom police station after a 51-year-old woman was defrauded under the false pretense that she will win the lotto.
The woman made two payments to the alleged prophet, the first payment of R50 000-00 in October and the second payment of R50 000 in November.
Thakeng says soon after the woman made these payments the prophet disappeared.
“Residents are strongly warned not to put their trust in people they don’t know, especially with their hard-earned cash,” he adds.
“Any person who might know the whereabouts of a person calling himself “Baba Mponya” can contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Neville Wessels of the Welkom Detective Services at 082 525 2168 or 057 391 6011 during all hours,” Thakeng further adds.
He adds that the victim saw an advert in a local newspaper about a prophet who called himself “Baba Mponya” who speaks a foreign language and is a miracle worker.
She phoned the prophet, set an appointment and visited the prophet at the consulting room in Welkom CBD.
