Mkhwebane claims disgruntled employees are behind recent media reports─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:33 Mon, 16 Dec 2019
Allegations she told officials to remove names of politicians, including former Free State Premier Ace Magushele and former MEC Mosebenzi Zwane - who are implicated in the controversial Estina dairy project - from her report are unfounded/
This, according to Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who adds the allegations were made by disgruntled current and former employees.
Mkhwebane says some of these employees were facing or are currently facing disciplinary action. Her reaction follows a News24 report that a whistleblower claims information contained in the initial report - implicating Magashule and Zwane, and compiled by Mkhebane, was removed on her instructions.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Democratic Alliance and member of the provincial legislature (MPL) in the province, Roy Jankielsohn, said that parliament should remove Mkhwebane from office and added that she should also be charged with perjury.
On her Twitter page, Mkhwebane further says it was only after the Justice Portfolio Committee requested an investigation into the role of politicians and the plight of project beneficiaries be carried out that one was launched, and adds that it is progressing well.
She adds that politicians have been interviewed and beneficiaries have given evidence.
“Accordingly, there couldn’t have been any removal of information that was never there to start with”
“In addition, the content of the provisional report in question has never been disputed,” Mkhwebane adds.
